Dealing with the grieving process at a any age is very hard. Sometimes it's hard to talk to others about what you are going through when they haven't experienced that same kind of loss. This is a place where you don't have to explain, because we all know what you are facing.
My Loss
Two days after my Junior prom, a Monday, my mom went in for shoulder surgery. She was in a coma until Sunday when she passed away. I was 17 years old and my brother was 15. My dad had lost his soul mate and had a very hard time pulling it together. I learned the importance of family and faith. I was forced to grow up a lot faster after that. I tried to fill in where my mom left off in my brother's and dad's lives, but no matter how hard I tried I always fell short. It took me sometime to realize you can't take care of everybody else and not yourself, a very hard lesson to learn. A year later my grandma, my dad's mom died.
I found a great book by Hope Edelman called Motherless Daughters. I couldn't believe there were others like me out there. Through her book I found a Motherless Daughters Meetup Group nearby and found comfort in not being all alone.
